• Informal Science Activities
  The Santa Fe Institute recognizes the importance of improving the scientific and technological literacy of the general public to the end that citizens are motivated to pursue further experiences in these areas and are aided in making informed, responsible decisions about related policy issues having societal implications. To that end it supports informal educational activities to the general public. 
  • The SFI Bulletin is a free general-interest magazine featuring the Institute’s work and researchers that is published by SFI twice a year.
  • SFI’s monthly series of free community science lectures is well established. Speakers are selected for their ability to convey broad research themes in the context of SFI’s approach to science. This program regularly attracts lay audiences of 200-400 people to hear talks by scholars visiting SFI. The bulk of the lectures are now underwritten by local businesses.
    
  • SFI is currently collaborating with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNH&S) in Albuquerque to produce a full-scale exhibition entitled Emergence: A New View of Life’s Origins. This display draws on research results from the current NSF award to the Santa Fe Institute, “Frontiers in Integrative Biology: From Geochemistry to the Genetic Code.”
• Modules
  Prepackaged courses provide an introduction to complex systems concepts and tools. They are a basic component of international and educational outreach activities.
